I have made a few since the last one I posted, but I've been dragging my feet about putting them up here.
So without further ado, here they are:
In May I had the privilege of making one of my best girlfriend's twin girls' 1st birthday cakes and cupcakes. It was a garden party, so I made flower pots.

...flower pots with short life spans:

The guests at the party got to enjoy cupcakes. Some had ladybugs, some had bees, and some had flowers.

It was at that party that I got another job, the next month. This one was for a little boy turning 3, and it was a construction theme. Some of these cakes, I dread having to come up with an idea. I shouldn't admit that, but it's true. This one, though, I was so excited about. I don't know why, maybe just because I now have two boys and I'm in little boy mode and want to think about trucks and road signs and dirt.
This mom wanted the same thing my friend did- a cake for the birthday boy and cupcakes for the guests. Here's what I came up with:
I say 'I' came up with it. Josh made that bulldozer. He's pretty awesome. I'm lucky to have him. :)
But I did turn out some pretty awesome cupcakes, if I do say so myself:
And what do you do with leftover batter and fondant? Yep! Make something out of it and take it to your next family function! It just so happened that the day we delivered the construction cake, we were headed down to Jackson Lake for our nephew's 4th birthday party. His Mama makes their own (awesome) cakes, so I just decided to add a few cupcakes to the party. I had been wanting to try this idea I had, so I played with some fondant and took these to the lake:
So then we went to my aunt and uncle's lake house for the fourth of July and needed to take something. What else? Cupcakes!
I got the fondant out again and decided to do the same type of thing, only this time I filled the cupcakes with icing before putting the fondant on. I should have cut one in half to show the icing in the middle. They looked like hostess cakes -ding dongs, I think.

Josh said they had a communist look about them. Not exactly what I was going for to celebrate America's birthday, but whatever. I didn't have a smaller star cutter. Oh well.
Most recently, I got to do a cake for Greg's girlfriend's daughter, Malia. I knew I wanted to do a cake for her whether they asked me to or not. I was prepared to come up with something on my own if they didn't talk to me about doing her cake. Something wound up being mentioned, so I told them I'd love to do one for her. Not long after that, Cici and Malia came over (they live next door) and Malia told me what she wanted. "On the first layer, I want zebra stripes, the second layer, hot pink, and a wolf head on top." The end. What an imagination.
We kind of laughed about it, and to be quite honest, I had decided that the wolf head might have to be just a cute thought and not an actual cake topper. But Josh wouldn't have it. He got to work on a wolf head. And thank goodness, because I never could have done it. I am not an artist.
So on to Chuck E. Cheese we went with our concoction:
As we walked in with the cake, just about everyone turned their head and had something to say about it. Most of them said, "Oh, what a cute cake!" but then kept looking a little bit longer, just noticing that there was a dog head on top of that cute cake. (Yeah, it kind of did look more like a dog, Josh, sorry.) One lady said, "Is that Madagascar?" I said, "No, it's just a wolf head."
Malia loved it. But not one of those girls wanted a piece of it. What?!? What's wrong with those girls? Chocolate cake? I guess Chuck E. Cheese's is just that fun. No time for cake! I gave out two business cards that night. We joked that I should make a cake and go up there every weekend with some business cards. Not a bad idea.

1.) I am SOOOO asking you if I ever need a cake for something.
2.) My kids at school call me Ms. B, so this whole bee theme has kind of popped up in my life, so I love those little bees on the cupcakes!
3.) I love the zebra pattern on that last one because I've collected zebras my whole life. Maybe for my 30th birthday I'll need a zebra cake...but we still have about a year and a half before that comes around... :)
4.) My husband needs that cake with the bulldozer on it! Do you think Josh could make a backhoe? Because when Patrick was little, he said he wanted to drive a backhoe when he grew up, so it's kind of a family joke-him and backhoes.
5.) You're amazing!
