About a Chair

If any of you ever want to spend about $900 on me, get me this chair:

Oh, how I love that chair.  It's even more beautiful in person.  It's actually a lot more beautiful in person.

Mama and I went shopping yesterday at Lenox and this chair was at Crate and Barrel.  It's just so classy and calming and peaceful.  I don't know if you can tell, but it's an ever-so-light shade of bluish gray.  I love those airy colors.  I'd love to decorate a room with this as my inspiration. I'd love to have just tons and tons of money to be able to afford to decorate a room that would make this chair feel at home.

We were shopping for new artwork and such for our house, since we're on a Spring Tour of Homes in Douglasville next Saturday, the 30th.  Oh my gosh, that's just a little over a week away.  Gotta go.

Spring Cake and Pirate Cake

Okay, time to play cake catch-up.  I've been doing cakes right and left, but haven't had time to post anything here.  But I didn't want to list them all in one post, so I'm going to post a couple at a time until I'm caught up.  I'm starting with the most recent, because those are my favorites.

Last week my mom's cousin called me and wanted a cake.  All she said was "something springy."  She may have been thinking lots of flowers and pastels, but while I agree that spring is about flowers, I don't feel like it necessarily has to be pastels.  (Can you tell I'm not a pastel kind of girl?)

Anyway, here's my interpretation of "something springy":

After finishing up the springy cake, I had to get started on the treasure chest/treasure map cake.  This one was so much fun!  This was for a little boy whose parents got married at Le Jardin Blanc while I was the event coordinator there and whose Dad I went to high school with.

Jake wanted a Pirate Party for his 4th birthday, and his Mom didn't want it to be too skull-and-crossbone-y.  So we decided on an awesome treasure chest and treasure map.

I delivered this one to their house.  Jake's mom came out to the car as I was getting it out and was so excited about it, she said, "Jake's in time-out right now, but I'm gonna go get him so he can see it!"  Too funny.  Some things are just worth interrupting time-out for.  :)

Unedited Journal Entry

I hope I don't regret this.  I am feeling a little free and fun tonight and decided to write in my journal for the first time in a while and said, what the heck.  I'm gonna post it.  What's the point in a blog about your life if you can't be real and honest?  So, here's tonight's entry, unedited.  Enjoy.

I’m supposed to be working on a cake.  But I don’t have all the items I need to finish it, so I’m browsing the internet instead.  Looking for a new purse.  I found one I really like, and asked Josh if we’re doing Mother’s Day and Father’s Day gifts this year.  Hint, hint.

I’m sippin’ on this new coffee drink he’s been making me lately.  It’s vodka, espresso liqueur, bailey’s irish cream and milk.  It’s pretty darn tasty.  It tastes a lot like a white russian, which I love.  It’s so good that I suck it down and get a buzz off the first one.  Like right now… I’m feelin’ pretty good.  And that’s probably why you’re getting an update right now.  ‘Cause I’m actually not freaking out about all the stuff that I have to do that makes it so that I can’t waste time on the computer anymore.

So, about Bennett and Cannon.  Bennett is talking, talking, talking.  Oh my gosh, that little boy.  He’s such a mess.  I’m smiling right now, just writing this.  He’s so incredibly funny.  I am loving this stage.  It’s a really hard and stressful stage, but also so very rewarding and fun.  I mean, they say that the reason 2 and 3 year olds are so cute is so you don’t kill ‘em.  Well, that’s pretty much the case.  But Mama thinks that Bennett has “it.”  “It” being the ability to just keep a smile on your face.  She remembers Tray and Tammy having it, and Sandi and Hana had it.  And now Bennett has it.  Just some kids are so funny and entertaining.  But I think every parent would argue that their kid has “it.”

Bennett is tall enough now that he doesn’t need a stool to go pee-pee.  He says, “Mama, my schtah nin-nuff.”  Sounds more like “I’m strong enough” but it means “I’m tall enough.”

I finally got him some short-sleeved pj’s a couple weeks ago.  It’s gotten pretty hot lately, so he’s been sleeping in short-sleeved t-shirts and sometimes no pants.  Which is fine, but he needed some actual pj’s.  So anyway, I got him some and he loves them.  They’re blue with a pirate ship on them and they say “PIRATE” and “Argh!”  And when we put them on he does this little stance and face and says “Pirate PJ’s!” with this deep, gruff voice and a scowl on his face.  Maybe I’ll try to get a video of it, ‘cause it’s a little hard to convey through text.

Okay, changing subjects for a second.  I just got done having a much needed, well maybe not much needed, but much missed conversation with Greg.  It wasn’t even anything deep or meaningful, but the two of us talked and laughed for a little bit.  I’ve been pretty much avoiding him lately.  Not really avoiding him, but not seeking him out.  I’ve separated myself from his situation.  I had to.  But anyway, I don’t want to get into his situation at all, because that would change the whole attitude of this entry.  But it was nice to share a smile with Greg.

Now, onto Cannon man.  He’s crawling everywhere, and he’s picking up speed!  He can get to you in a jiffy now!  He’s great at pulling up, and Josh just taught him how to let himself back down the other day.  He loves for you to hold his hands and let him walk around.  He’s pretty good at doing it just holding one of your hands, but still prefers two.  He was saying “Mama" and "Poppa" for a while, but kind of quit all together for a few weeks.  He has said “Dada” to me a couple times, almost like a joke.  I’d say, “Cannon, can you say Ma-Ma?  MA-MA.  MA-MA.”  And he’d look at me and kind of giggle and say, “Da-da.”  Crazy boy.  But just in the last week or so he's back to the "Mama" thing.

He’s finally eating something other than breast milk.  Still will not allow you to stick a spoon anywhere near his mouth.  Forget it.  No pureed crap for that little one.  I have given him yogurt and he seems to enjoy that, but he doesn’t get it from a spoon!  I was trying one day and just said forget it and dumped a big pile of it on his high chair tray and said, there.  If you want it, get it.  And he did.  With his hands.  He even tried to lean up far enough to put his mouth directly onto the pile of yogurt, but the straps wouldn’t allow it.  It was pretty funny.  And of course it was a big mess.  But who cares.  Anyway, he eats the heck out of those graduates snacks and he’s now loving the soft granola bars.  So as soon as I get a little time back (after this tour of homes– that I probably haven’t mentioned at all) I am going to make some nutritional cookies or granola bars.  You know, with wheat germ and avocado and spinach.  All that good stuff you look for in a cookie.

Alrighty then.  Gotta go see about my man.  The old one.  Relatively speaking, of course.  Goodnight.

With a Little Help from my Little Friend

Okay, no time to write too much, but I had to share this.

We had a yard sale last weekend during Douglasville's "Old Town, Whole Town" which is a city-wide yard sale amnesty weekend (which just means you don't have to get a permit to have one - and in case you didn't know, yes, you are supposed to actually get a permit to have a yard sale).

An acquaintance of ours works for an online newspaper and stopped by our yard sale looking for someone to interview for a piece he was doing on the event. It seems that I got volunteered to be the spokesperson, but I had nothing to worry about because I had some great help.

Click here and see for yourself (we come in around 2:29).
