Playing Hookie

I'm seriously thinking about it.

I went for my 38 week doctor's appointment this morning. It was supposed to be my last appointment before my scheduled c-section next Thursday (have I even mentioned that here?).

Anyway, so I went in thinking this was the last time they were going to make me wait in the waiting room for a various number of minutes before taking me back to get my blood pressure, urine sample and weight (which are always all good), and then making me wait in the back waiting room for a few more minutes before taking me to my final destination (the exam room), where I then have to wait for the doctor to come in (which usually means listening to them have a personal conversation with several of the nurses just outside the door) and ask me if I'm having any problems - no -, is the baby moving - all the time -, do you have any questions - no -, then listen to his heartbeat and tell me everything looks great.

So after we went through that whole ordeal today (which was actually done in a timely manner), the doctor said, "Well, let's see you back here on Tuesday." I said, "Oh. I thought this was my last appointment before the c-section." She said, "No, I think we'd like to see you one more time."

What?!? Really? Do you really think something is going to have changed over the weekend? I mean, maybe it could, but about all I would expect to happen would be me going into labor, in which case I'd have my butt on the way to the hospital - not to my OBGYN.

I didn't say anything else to the doctor; I just checked out and let them make my Tuesday appointment. But once I got home and talked to Josh on the phone, I decided 'no.' I'm not going back Tuesday. I'm not going back one more time so that my insurance company can pay you just a little bit more before they dole out major bucks for my c-section. And our insurance isn't all that great, so it really means that we are paying you a little bit more out of pocket before we get wiped out from the c-section.

Not interested. I'm fine, the baby is fine. I go in for pre-op Wednesday and then I'll see you Thursday at the hospital so you can take this little guy out of me and off my sciatic nerve. Thanks.
