Bennett and the Bonfire: Take 2

Wow, has anyone else written an entire post and then encountered a "problem" with your post and not have any of it saved as a draft? Darn.

Anyway, let's see if I can do this again.

Last Friday night we built a bonfire next door in Grandpa's back yard. Daddy had a nice pile of limbs and brush that he had been building up, waiting for it to get cool enough to build a fire.

Bennett and I took the wagon and got a load of bricks to make the fire pit.

I had a cute little video of Bennett riding in the wagon with the bricks. He sees me with the camera and immediately says "cheese" and gives me that silly fake smile of his. But, I guess part of the "problem" was with uploading the video, so we're going to skip that.

He really enjoyed watching the fire. We had to hold onto him, because all he wanted to do was run into it. We figured that he would realize that it was too hot for him once he got close enough, but the problem was that if he were to stumble, into the pit he would go. So, it was a nice little battle keeping him safely contained.

The fire was nice. Jeff was in town for his Spring Break and was able to visit with us a little. We thought it was pretty funny that he came from Daytona Beach to Douglasville for Spring Break. Who woulda thought? We invited Greg and Cici and the girls, but then called them back because it started to rain on us and we didn't want them coming from Villa Rica only to have to turn back around and go home. It never did get bad enough for us to go inside, though. We all just got hats and kept on roasting our weenies, toasting our marshmallows and drinking our beer.

Sure, Bennett enjoyed a brewsky too.

Just kidding!

He did get cherry chapstick rubbed all over his face. It was getting pretty red and chapped. While his face was less chapped after the cherry chapstick, the redness was only enhanced. Go figure.

We all had to get baths and wash our clothes asap because the smell of smoke was so bad. I don't remember it ever bothering my eyes as much as it did that night. Mama and Daddy and I all seemed to have a problem with it. It didn't bother Josh at all, but he thinks it's because he has contacts and they were protecting his eyes somewhat.
